SharkAngels-Just Because

Last Friday, a team of SharkAngels, including our CEO Joe Gustafson, loaded up the sleighs and flew from Waltham to Hopkinton to support the Holiday Wish program at Project Just Because .   Project Just Because was founded by Cherylann Lambert Walsh and you can find her there everyday.  The goal of this Sharktabulous program is to provide for the basic needs that families may have.  She has a furniture exchange, a coat drive, a food pantry and a hospital visitation program.  Cherylann and her team run a bare bones program so that all the goods and money collected can go directly to those who need it.  We are proud to be connected to her and this exception non-profit.  Here are the SharkAngels loading the sleighs.

The SharkAngels have been around since 2000 when the company was less than a year old.  That first year we had enough employees to collect gifts for 18 children.  This year we set a new record by sponsoring 120 children identified through Project Just Because.  Over the past 11 years, the SharkAngels have sponsored over 500 children during the holidays.   Every year that Brainshark has grown, our participation has grown and the SharkAngel program has grown.

The logo for Project Just Because is the heart and this year the Brainshark office was covered with hearts to represent all the children that had been sponsored.

The SharkAngel elves who were fortunate enough to deliver the gifts to Hopkinton got to see first hand the great need that exists this holiday season.  Cherylann is trying to put together gift bags for over 15,000 children.  She is about half way to her goal and as is her way - hopeful that she will get gifts to everyone who has joined the program.  Here are the elves with Cherylann (white sweater)

This year, Brainshark added a new element to the program that supports volunteer work by staff.  Every employee can get a paid day off if they spend that day doing volunteer work at a non-profit of their own choosing.  The beauty of the program is that it supports the community and it supports the employee's own interests.  This has been very popular among employees and a source of pride for the company.   It gives us all a chance to support the community not just during the holidays but throughout the whole year.

From all of us at Brainshark - May you have a happy and healthy holiday season and a joyous new year!
