myBrainshark User Question: Where Did My Animations Go?

myBrainshark Question:

 “I have uploaded a file that contains animations. How do I get those animations to work in myBrainshark?”

Answer:

I'm happy to say this question has an easy solution: animations set in PowerPoint must also be set in myBrainshark in order to appear. There are two ways to animate in myBrainshark: “click to fire” and manual triggering. Essentially, “click to fire” lets you launch the animations as you record your audio, while manual triggering allows the author to set the animation timings once the audio has been recorded.

The manual triggering method tends to be better for more precise timings and a smoother flow for audio recording. Here are some things to keep in mind should you choose this option, or have a need to go back and edit your timings:

  • Each animation will need to be set for its own unique second. If you have animation timings set at “5,5”, for example, only the first will fire. If your animations should fire together, make sure to reflect this in PowerPoint.

  • Additionally, animations set to fire after a minute into your slide will require that you input the actual second value, not the minute:second convention. For example, an animation that needs to fire at 1:14 of the slide would receive a timing of 74 in the “on-click animations” field.

  • Finally, your animation timings cannot exceed the duration of the slide. The second must exist in the slide duration in order for the animation to be able to fire. Therefore, if your slide is 20 seconds long and you set an animation to fire at “21”, your animation will not play.

Tips and tricks for terrific timings

To ensure your animation timings are top-notch, here are some recommendations:

  • First, add indicators to your script for when your animations should fire. These can be bolded words, actual notes to “CLICK!”, or little asterisks next to keywords. These cues make it easier to animate efficiently and accurately.

  • Also, we recommend having your presentation playing in a separate window so you can watch them as you manually designate or review your timings. Again, this will make it easier to sync the specifics and make any minor timing tweaks.

  • There is no wrong way to approach animations in myBrainshark – aside from not using them at all. Animations add a crucial experience to the content – as Steve said, they are “the MOST important” element – so all that matters is that you find a way to use them that best suits you, your audience, and your content needs.
